What is Loveu?

Loveu is a search tool that helps you discover European alternatives to popular digital services. Whether you're looking for search engines, email providers, cloud storage, or social media platforms, Loveu can help you find European-based alternatives that often provide better privacy protections and support European digital sovereignty.

Why use European alternatives?

There are several benefits to using European digital services:

How is the data collected?

The service information is manually curated and regularly updated to ensure accuracy. We research each service to verify its country of origin, features, availability, and status as European and/or non-profit. If you notice any inaccuracies or would like to suggest additional services, please contact us.

How do I search for alternatives?

The search process is simple:

1. Select your country first: Use the country selector in the top-right to filter services that are available in your location. This ensures you only see alternatives you can actually use.
2. Find alternatives in two ways:
   • By category: Click on a category card (like "Email" or "Search Engines") to browse all European alternatives in that category.
   • By service: Type the name of a specific service you want to replace (e.g., "Gmail" or "Google Maps") in the search bar to find European alternatives.

What do the tags mean?

Services are tagged with important information:

• Country: Shows the country of the majority owner or parent company.
• European: Indicates that the service is majority-owned by a European company or organization.
• Non-profit: Shows that the service is operated by a non-profit organization.

How do I view service details?

Click on any service card to open a detailed view with more information about the service, including a detailed description, availability information, and reasons to choose that service. From the detailed view, you can also visit the service's website.

How is Loveu built?

Loveu is built with Next.js, a React framework, and uses Incremental Static Regeneration (ISR) to provide fast page loads while allowing content updates without full rebuilds. The UI is built with Tailwind CSS for styling and uses client-side JavaScript for interactive features.

Is my search data collected?

Loveu uses minimal analytics to improve the service. We collect anonymous usage data like page views and search terms, but we don't track individual users or collect personal information. All data is processed in accordance with GDPR requirements.

Can I contribute to Loveu?
